The original painting was inspired by a story my brother told me. He was on a mammoth sailing trip across the Gulf of Mexico from Houston Texas via the Caribbean to Cuba, they were over a 100 miles away from land in the middle of the Ocean when the rudder broke! It had to be fixed by jumping over the side to investigate. Dark shadows appeared – Sharks! Of course this created a sudden panic to get on board as quickly as possible. The rudder had a temporary fix which miraculously got them to shore in Cuba!” AB
